I had the absolute pleasure of photographing J & D’s wedding at the stunning Ashley Park House in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, and honestly, it was one of those days I’ll never forget. From the moment I arrived, everything about the place and the people felt so special – the kind of wedding that makes me pinch myself and think, this is really my job!
Ashley Park House is, without doubt, one of my favourite venues to photograph. It’s got that perfect blend of old-world charm and relaxed, homely vibes. Set right on the lake with sweeping lawns and incredible woodlands, it’s a dream for any wedding photographer in Ireland. The grounds are so versatile – whether couples want romantic lakeside shots, golden light peeking through the trees, or elegant portraits on the house steps, it has it all. As a photographer, I couldn’t ask for more variety in one location.
One of the best things about Ashley Park House is how it feels like you’re stepping into a little bubble for the day. The entire estate is yours, so it feels intimate and personal, no matter how big or small the wedding is. For couples, this means no rushing between locations – everything is right there. And for me, as a Dublin wedding photographer, it means I get to spend more time capturing genuine moments and less time worrying about logistics.
J & D had the brilliant idea to do their couple’s portraits and wedding party photos before the ceremony. It was the best decision – we got all the “formal” shots done in the morning when everyone was fresh and excited, which meant after the vows they could relax fully with their family and friends. The atmosphere was so calm, no pressure, no stress. More time for hugs, chats, and soaking in the day.
Their ceremony was led by the wonderful John Burns, and it was honestly one of the most heartfelt ceremonies I’ve witnessed. His way of telling a couple’s story, bringing in humour and warmth, made it unforgettable. When J & D exchanged their vows, I was close to tears, It was stunning. Those are the moments I live for as a wedding photographer in Ireland.
Ashley Park House also knows how to throw a party. After dinner, the incredible Papa Zita’s wedding band had everyone on their feet. I don’t think there was a single guest sitting down once they started – the energy was infectious, and it felt like one big celebration of love and joy. J & D topped it all off with a choreographed first dance that blew everyone away. You could see how much effort they’d put into it, and it was so fun to capture the reactions from their guests.
Personally, I felt so welcomed throughout the whole day – more like a guest with a camera than a supplier. That kind of atmosphere makes such a difference because it allows me to photograph in a natural, storytelling way. By the end of the night, I genuinely felt like I’d been photographing friends.
For any couples considering Ashley Park House – I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s a venue that really gives you space to breathe, to connect, and to celebrate without distractions. From a photography perspective, it’s magic. From a guest’s perspective, it’s warm and inviting. And from a couple’s perspective, it’s everything you could want for a wedding.
