I'm an award winning family photographer for Dublin and honestly, family sessions are where my whole love of photography started. There is nothing I enjoy more than spending an hour with a real family, in all their wonderful chaotic glory, and coming away with photographs that actually look like them.


No stiff posing, no matching outfits, no making the kids stand still when they absolutely do not want to. Just your family, being yourselves, captured in a way that you'll look back on in twenty years and feel everything.


These are the photographs that get passed down. The ones that end up framed on walls and rummaged through by grandkids who never got to meet the people in them. I know that because I have those photographs in my own family and they are the most precious things I own.

Getting photographs that you genuinely love, that make you stop scrolling and just stare, that make your heart do a little thing — that means everything to me. Honestly it does.


So here's what a session with me looks like. We show up, we have a chat, we mess around a bit and somewhere in the middle of all of that I take some photographs. No formalities, no awkward directions, no making everyone stand in a line with their hands by their sides. Just a relaxed, easy, fun hour with someone who happens to be obsessed with photography.


If your kids are feral that day, brilliant. If your toddler throws a tantrum, even better. If your baby won't stop crying or your dog won't sit still or everyone is in slightly the wrong place, I genuinely don't mind.


Real life is messy and loud and imperfect and that's exactly where the best photographs live.


You don't need to dress it up or stress about it or try to make it perfect. You just need to show up as you are. That's more than enough. You are more than enough.

So how does it all work?


Let me tell you about the easiest photo session you will ever have!

The favourite part of my job is that I get to work with families and couples to capture their honest, authentic, messy, beautiful love for one another! Yes, we'll set up shots and tweak things to make you look amazing, but my number one goal is that you walk away with real and genuine photos that truly capture this season of your life.

​

During the session we'll do a bit of everything - Unlike studio portraits where you're pulling your hair out trying to get your kids to sit still or smile on cue, my portraits are organic and natural. I work on getting everyone interacting and having fun! In my opinion, that's the best way to have a photoshoot!

We will get to know each other and have a chat over the phone.

I will answer any questions you may have and you can tell me all about your family.

We can discuss a time and location that suits your family best and discuss any ideas you may have.

My photo sessions are very relaxed and easy going.

I will give you simple prompts and direction to get you all interacting, but I will also photograph all the in-between.

My goal is to capture genuine moments and real emotion. We will can do something you love to do as a family, go for a walk in your favourite park, chill out at your house, what ever suits you best.

Step 03

I will carefully select and edit the very best photographs from your session.

Within two weeks of your session date you will receive your online viewing gallery to download and keep forever.

What to bring

  • Comfortable shoes for everyone - No heels, please. (Unless you really really want them!)
  • Favourite toys, bubbles, water, snacks, whatever you need to keep everyone happy!
  • Ireland is pretty muddy, with young children I recommend bringing wellies, a towel and wipes.
  • Four legged friends are more than welcome (if they play nice and our location allows pets!)

TIMING

Golden hour is when photos of people are at their best. I try to schedule all sessions an hour or so before sunset (taking into account your kids nap and meal times).

Preparation

To avoid last minute stress, make sure to pick out all family clothes and props in advance. Make sure everyone is comfortable in the clothes they are wearing.

Don't bring anything that you will mind getting scruffed up or muddy, as this happens often in my sessions!

Five wardrobe tips!


Most importantly be yourself and be comfortable! And wear comfortable shoes!!!


1. Don't match, coordinate.

Pick a colour combination for your family to work within.

​

2. Don't be too seasonal.

While the idea of clothes for the season may be appealing, our aim is to produce photographs that you can display in your home all year round! Unless you live in the North Pole, Christmas only really works once a year.

​

3. Go for earth tones, textures and solid colours.

These are the most classic and timeless. Layers in your clothing provide visual interest and movement (especially for the girls! Dresses or a flowy shawl etc). Avoid bright colours, stripes and crazy patterns.

​

4. Fitted - Best.

Avoid baggy jeans or loose fitting shirts etc.

​

5. We want your session to be enjoyable and fun for everyone involved.

If your kid's clothing is uncomfortable for them to wear, it won't be nearly as fun.

​

Bonus tip: Feel free to throw all these tips out the window. You can actually wear whatever the hell you want!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I want to book, so what now?

Simply fill out the contact form with any relevant information & I will respond within a few days with my available dates & answer any questions you may have! We can arrange a date and location that suits your family and discuss any ideas you may have. After that I will invoice you for your booking fee, I will send you my photography contract and get you booked in! A few days prior to the session we can chat over the phone,  get to know each other and go over our plans for your family photo session!

2. When should i book?

Booking in advance is recommended! I am usually booked out a few months in advance.

3. What is your shooting style?

I am a lifestyle family photographer, which means I give direction and prompts to get your family interacting, rather than posing, because this is where the magic happens!  My goal is to capture real and genuine moments, and although I give direction, some of my most favourite photographs are the ones that happen in between! My photos sessions are very relaxed, its more like hanging out with a friend with a camera... no stiff posing here!

4. Do you have a studio?

Nope! And I don't want one. Out on location is where I want to be!

5. What if my kids won't engage?

As a mother of three, believe me, I would be very surprised if they did engage all the time! A lot of children are shy or have a hard time with posing for photos, which is why we can forget about the posing and let them do what's fun for them! Let them explore, let them bring a football or a toy they love, if at home they can jump on their bed or show me their favourite toys. There is no pressure! We can take our time & let the kids enjoy themselves.

6. Are sessions indoors or outdoors?

All session locations are chosen in collaboration with you, every family photo session is as unique as the family!

7. Can I cancel/reschedule my session?

Booking fees are non refundable, as I am holding the date for you and turning away other clients. If you need to reschedule your session contact me as soon as possible.

8. When is payment due?

A non refundable booking fee is due before the date can be reserved, with the remaining balance of the session fee due on/before the session date.

9. What happens if it rains?

In Ireland, this is a very valid question! No worries! If your session date gets rained out, we can either select an alternative location or time,  or reschedule to another date. Or we can always splash about in the rain!

10.How long until I receive my images?

After I have selected the very best images of your session, I will edit them and upload them to your online gallery. You will have this gallery to view within two weeks of your session date. Any printed products will be delivered within a month after purchase.

11. Do you offer prints and products?

Each gallery is hucked up to a number of professional printing labs where you can order gorgeous printed products.

12. Do we get the digital files?

You get every EDITED photo to download and print as many times as you'd like! You only get the best images from our session together.

I got Deirdre to take some photos of myself and two grown up children after a friend had recommended her too me. I definitely was not disappointed from the moment she arrived at our home she made us feel very relaxed and comfortable. The photo session flew by with plenty of laughs along the way. No awkwardness or uncomfortable moments. Later that evening Deirdre sent me a few proofs to have a look at. I can not recommend Deirdre enough her personality and professional approach is second to none. Photos were absolutely amazing. I will definitely be seeing Deirdre again for another photo session.

Deirdre is an amazing photographer, she has so much patience as my son has autism and hard sometimes to get a smile she was absolutely amazing with both my sons and myself, our shoot was so laid back so natural!

They did the photos for my daughter's wedding. To say they did a good job is putting it mildly. The photos are extraordinary and capture the essence of the day perfectly. It was an informal fabulous wedding and the photos capture the atmosphere perfectly. Highly recommended.
